For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. —Romans 15:4

What's in a name?

Philippians 2:9-11

9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Names have been a popular topic in our family lately. We are expecting three new grand-babies in the next 6-7 months and the parents are searching the baby name books and tossing around the best name for baby. Names are important, you live with your name your entire life (unless of course - you legally change it). One of the first things people do when they first meet you is ask your name. What do people think of when they hear your name? Someone who is responsible, joyful, a nagger, pessimist, optimist, fun, boring? Do they think of someone who loves the Lord?

The name Jesus is recognized all over the world. His name is probably spoken more often that any other name. Sadly, it is often used as a curse. I hope that when you hear the name Jesus, you think of forgiveness, love, salvation, joy, peace, and all the attributes we know of him through his word.
